Structure of the Imperial Military Service

  1. PURPOSE. Pursuant to the authority delegated to and vested in the Chief Marshal Commander, and referencing Grand Marshal Directives (GMD), vocal orders (VOCO), and instructions, this
  2. DEFINITIONS.
    1. The Pentagon.  The secure area located near Fortress Aksum, serves as the joint headquarters of the Imperial Military.
    2. Fortress Aksum.  The secure headquarters of the Imperial Service
    3. Joint.  Term used to describe the combination of Army and Naval forces
    4. Combined. Term used to describe the combination of Aksum forces with another nation or alliance.
    5. Unified. Term used to describe the combination of all Imperial Service forces under one command
    6. Command Post.  A central hub for the oversight of operations in support of a mission. May have a specific function (logistics, aviation, operations, administration, etc).
    7. IMS. An abbreviation for Imperial Military Service
    8. Military.  Term covering anything and everything related to the Imperial Military Service. Used as a short term.
    9. CMC. Abbreviation used to denote the Chief Marshal Commander, the senior officer of the Imperial Military.
  3. APPLICABILITY. This directive applies to all elements assigned or attached to the Imperial Military and/or under the authority of the Chief Marshal Commander.
  4. MISSION.  The mission of the Military is to fight and win the Imperium’s wars, conduct defense and security operations in and around Imperial Space; provide support to the States of the Imperium; and ensure the survival of the Imperium.
  5. ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT.  The Imperial Military Service is organized with a Headquarters and at least two subordinate organizations, the Imperial Army, the Imperial Navy, and the Military Training and Education Command.
    1. Headquarters of the IMS supports the CMC and the subordinate elements of the Imperial Military it consists of:
      1. Command Group
        1. Chief Marshal Commander of the Military (in the grades of O-12 to O14)
        2. Vice Chief Marshal Commander of the Military (in the grades of O-11 to O-13)

      2. The Army conducts its operations through field armies that are overseen by the G3 and the Vice Field Marshal. The Army Staff initially provides the staff support for the field armies.  The following force structure is authorized:
        1. 1st Army is the Senior Army Command in the Alpha Quadrant
        2. 2nd Army is the Senior Army Command in the Beta Quadrant
        3. 3rd Army is the Senior Army Command in the Gamma Quadrant
        4. 4th Army is the Senior Army Command in the Delta Quadrant
          1. Each field army shall have a headquarters with subordinate elements based on GMD 7.3-006.

      2. Naval Operations are conducted through the numbered navies and the four naval branches.
        1. There are four operational navies that are located in each quadrant.Each field Naval is the senior naval command in that quadrant and oversees attached assets provided by the naval branches. The senior naval officer (ISF, ISFC, IM) assigned to that quadrant serves as the commanding officer.  He/she may form a joint staff of all the assets to best support the Quadrant or Legion Commanders.
          1. 1st Navy in Alpha Quadrant
          2. 2nd Navy in Beta Quadrant
          3. 3rd Navy in Gamma Quadrant
          4. 4th Navy in Delta Quadrant
        2. The Imperial Star Force is the space fleet or star fleet and operates in and around Imperial Space ensuring the flow of interstellar travel, securing and defending the Imperium and, enforcing rules of space navigation. Imperial Navy HQ staff provides the necessary support  It consists of:
          1. Headquarters
            1. Chief Fleet Admiral
            2. Vice Chief Fleet Admiral
            3. Adjutant
            4. Chief of Intelligence
            5. Chief of Operations
            6. MCPO of the Fleet
          2. The Chief Fleet Admiral will establish fleets and task groups to best support the quadrant commanders requirements, provided that the resources are available.  There shall be at a minimum a fleet in each quadrant.
          3. Fleets may be subdivided into Groups, Squadrons, and Task Elements.  The Chief Fleet Admiral will set further instructions.
        3. The Imperial StarFighter Corps provides small craft to defend larger ships, the orbits of planets, support the Imperial Army, and support missions conducted by the Imperial Star Force. It consists of:
          1. Headquarters
            1. Chief Flight Marshal
            2. Vice Chief Flight Marshal
            3. Corps Adjutant
            4. Chief of Intelligence
            5. Chief of Operations
            6. Chief of Training
          2. The Chief Flight Marshal will establish at least one Starfighter Command in each Quadrant and may establish Divisions, Wings, Squadrons, Flights, and Patrols as required and on order.
          3. Each Starfighter Command is commanded by a Flight Marshal who is the senior member of the ISFC assigned to that quadrant.
        4. The Imperial Marines provide security to capital ships, star bases, space stations, and embassies.  It conducts ship raids, naval reconnaissance, and supports Imperial Army missions. It consists of:
          1. Headquarters
            1. Chief Force Marshal
            2. Vice Chief Marshal
            3. Corps Adjutant
            4. Chief of Intelligence
            5. Chief of Operations
          2. The Chief Force Marshal will establish a Marine Command in each quadrant.  Each Marine Command is subdivided into Divisions, Brigades, Regiments, Battalions, Companies, Platoons, and Squads.
          3. Each Marine Command is commanded by a Force Marshal who is the senior Marine Officer assigned to that Quadrant.
        5. The Imperial Space Navigation Administration is established to conduct the duties of space traffic management, ship registration, and enforcement of the rules of space navigation. The ISNA will man the Star Control Stations in each Star Base.
  1. RELATIONSHIPS AND AUTHORITIES
    1. The Vice Chief Marshal Commander (VCMC) shall manage the Imperial Military in the absence and on behalf of the Chief Marshal Commander.  The VCMC is authorized to coordinate with other elements of the Imperial Service and Imperial Military and agencies of the Imperial Government.  All matters presented to the CMC shall be shared with the VCMC.  The VCMC is the primary manager of plans and resources and disciplinary matters.
    2. The J3 is delegated the authority to issue orders in the name of the CMC on all operational and force structure matters.  He or she is authorized direct interaction with Quadrants and Imperial Service Staff.
    3. The Imperial Service Staff is authorized direct interaction with other personnel and administration offices related to their functions; and may act FOR THE CHIEF MARSHAL COMMANDERS on matters related to their functions.
    4. The Field Marshal of the Army and Fleet Marshal of the Navy is authorized direct coordination with Quadrant Commanders on matters related to providing services.
    5. The Fleet Marshal of the Navy is designated by the Supreme Commander and Grand Marshal as the Imperial Space Navigation Authority and is authorized direct coordination throughout the Imperial Service and Imperial Government.
  1. ADMINISTRATION.
    1. The Chief Marshal Commander nominates the Vice Chief Marshal Commander, the Field Marshal of the Army, and Field Marshal of the Navy, and the Grand or Vice Grand Marshal appoints. The Chief Marshal Commander appoints key leaders two levels below and all commanders or marshals are directed the same.
    2. The Judge Advocate General of the Military is appointed by the Judge Advocate Marshal of the Imperial Service with concurrence of the Chief Marshal Commander.
  1. RELEASABILITY. Unlimited. This directive is approved for public release and shall be made available in the Imperial Archives with a link in the Imperial Forums.
