MEMORANDUM FOR ALL HANDS

Subject: Naval Directive 22-9-002 - Ship Classes, Types, and Names (some)

1.  The Imperial Navy is tasked with missions that require long sustainment in space.  For that reason it shall maintain fighters, transports, or shuttle craft and will coordinate with the Imperial Aero Forces for the support needed for this type/class of vessels.  Ships operated by the Imperial Navy shall have the nomenclature IMS and the name.

2.  The following are the classes and purposes of each ship type and class  in the Imperial Navy, as approved by the Chain of Command.

  • Dreadnought Type.  Is the combination of a battleship, cruiser, and carrier. Can carry up to two fighter wings, and can strengthen shields of the ships linked to it.  There are five classes, one of which is restricted.
    • Excalibur Class: The most powerful Imperial Fleet vessel, this class is designed to enter a system and control it without assistance.  It is 7 miles long and 4 miles wide.  The crew complement is up to 16000 crew; 20,000 troops, 3,000 Flight Crew, and space for 2,400 others. It carries 4 corvettes, 4 frigates in a large hangar in the rear, as well as up to 400 fighters, and has twice the firepower of any other Imperial Fleet Vessel.  Can only be built in the Aksum Space-yard. Only one ship of this classes is in use
      • IMS Excalibur (EDN1) was remade from the materials from the ISB Excalibur, a former worlds-hip turned into a star base, then decommissioned and scuttled to become the Imperial Flag Ship.  It is manned by the Imperial Guard.  It is the primary ship of the Phoenix Force.  It currently holds 4 Nike Class Frigates and 4 Hermes Class Corvettes.  It contains a gravity drive and attached Gravity Ram; Bridge engines that allow it to maneuver directions in hyperspace, and impulse and dark matter engines for sub-light travel.  The ship is capable of operating by itself but is typically accompanied by other ships attached to the Imperial Guard Phoenix Force.
    • Titan Class:  After the Excalibur Class, is the most powerful ship not used by the Supreme Commander.  Carries over 200 fighters, 36 shuttles, a battalion of Marines, has two rail guns capable of shooting plasma and proton projectiles.  Two mass drivers for orbital bombardment.  A complement of 5820 personnel.  Requires an escort. Six ships are in construction in this class:
      • IMS Titan (TDN-1) - To be used by the Grand Marshal
