Module 3 — Crown, authority, institutions, and Imperial inheritance

Lessons

3.1 The Imperial Crown

Study the Crown's role in constitutional continuity, unity, sovereignty, and Imperial inheritance.

3.2 Sources of public authority

Imperial officers, Regents, councils, courts, commands, ministries, service bodies, territorial rulers, Great Houses, and other institutions exercise authority through the Constitution, an Imperial grant, lawful delegation, or another valid Imperial instrument.

3.3 Territorial continuity

Study the High Kingdom of Aksum as the original heartland and present seat of effective authority, and the distinction between current effective administration and inherited territorial claims.

Knowledge check

Name the recognized source-types from which an Imperial institution may derive authority.
Does interruption of territorial administration by itself extinguish the underlying Imperial claim?
Why must office, rank, House status, Service billet, and delegated authority be analyzed separately?

Assignment

Create an authority map for three different Imperial institutions. For each, identify the claimed authority source and state what additional instrument or delegation would be required before exercising a power not supplied by that source.
